Second Phase Teaching practice - Day 1

Reflection on Day One of Second Phase Teaching Practice

Today marked the first day of my second phase of teaching practice at KPM HSS. The experience was both exhilarating and educational, providing me with a solid foundation to build upon in the coming weeks. Upon arriving at the school, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. My first task was to visit the Headmaster, Mr. Bibin Bhasker, to sign the register and confirm my presence. Mr. Bhasker was very welcoming and provided me with some initial guidance and encouragement, which helped calm my nerves and set a positive tone for the day.

Entering the classroom of 8B, I was greeted by curious and eager faces. My lesson plan for the day included an introduction to the topic and a few interactive activities to gauge the students' prior knowledge. The afternoon session with class 9C was equally stimulating. The older students were more inquisitive and asked insightful questions, which made the session dynamic and intellectually rewarding.

  • Introduction and Engagement: Similar to the morning session, I began with a brief introduction and an engagement activity. This helped set a positive and interactive tone for the class.
  • Delivering the Lesson: I used a combination of direct instruction and collaborative learning strategies. The students were divided into small groups to discuss specific aspects of the topic, fostering peer learning.
  • Classroom Management: Managing a larger and more diverse group was challenging but also a valuable learning experience. I focused on maintaining discipline while encouraging open dialogue and participation.

At the end of the day, I spent some time reflecting on my experiences and noting areas for improvement. I realized the importance of:

  • Effective Classroom Management: Balancing discipline with engagement is crucial for a productive learning environment.
  • Interactive Teaching Methods: Encouraging student participation through interactive activities and discussions enhances learning outcomes.
  • Time Management: Properly allocating time for different segments of the lesson ensures that all planned activities are completed efficiently.

My first day of the second phase of teaching practice at KPM HSS was a fulfilling experience. Meeting Mr. Bibin Bhasker and receiving his support was encouraging, and my interactions with the students in classes 8B and 9C were both educational and enjoyable. I look forward to the coming days, where I hope to apply the lessons learned today and continue to grow as an educator.

I am confident that with continued effort and reflection, I will complete this phase of teaching practice successfully and make a positive impact on my students' learning journey.
